ALOO MATE!

One of the mermaids will be leaving for the English shores. She decided to look for a Master in Leicester. There’s nothing left for her here. She will swim far far far away until she can’t swim no more.... oh farewell thy mermaid!
Me with the mermaids. Mermaid in pink is the one swimming off to look for sum english bloke! hehehe

Ok I’m blabbering. A dive buddy of mine will be flying to UK so she could continue her studies. Taking Masters in Finance? Accounting? Maths? I dunno..... but she will be leaving us soon. So for that reason I baked her ‘Farewell cupcakes’. As always, I planned out the design and sketch some ideas. This time I thought of using fondant to make small cute figurines such as the famous London double-decker bus, the red post box, the queen’s guard hat, the underground sign and the British flag with a mermaid sitting on top. Yes... very very ambitious.

To summarize the whole thing, the fondant figurines came out all wrong... total DISASTER! So went to plan B and use the chocolate melting technique. A DISASTER! I use different method which I shouldn’t have. At this point I was pretty frustrated. I ended up doing the classic swirl for all the cupcakes and sprinkle colourful sugar dust. My mind went blank. No ideas. No design..... Until I was about to go zzzzzzzzzz, I had an epiphany. I looked through the internet for British Slangs. I know a few but just to get a couple more; I went back downstairs and started making cartoon speech bubbles. I thought “why not design cartoon bubbles that has the common british slangs?” Honestly I think it was a pretty good last minute idea but because it was quite late at night it turned out a tad messy. But ‘the thought that counts!’

Had croissant with whipped cream for bfast today. So YUMMYYY! Put a little bit of sugar + 1/2 of vanilla pod + cream. Thought i should share :P

MIDE 2010 – Post-mortem BBQ (Tenggol)

In my previous blog I mentioned the Through the Lens photo competition organised by Australiasia Dive magazine and how I ALSO mentioned competing in 2 categories. Well................ obviously I didn’t win!
This were the winners for this year's photo competition. Check out the goby, how the hell am i suppose to compete with that!!!! And that whale! WHAT THE...........!

2nd and 3rd place. Still awesome pictures!

Went to the exhibition on Saturday 31st August, quite a lot of people, saw familiar faces; divers, instructors and resort owners. This year they invited resorts from Egypt and Timor-Lester. One of my objectives on that day was to go and search any info on Timor-Lester. Mr. Daniel who works for the presidential office in Timor was a huge help. He describes how untouched and beautiful Timor can offer to divers. The government is organising a photo competition to attract divers to Timor-Leste at the same time promoting their tourism. Check out the website http://www.underwatertimorleste.com/. The first resorts that settled in Timor are Dive Timor Lorosae http://www.divetimor.com/. They’ve been around more than 6 years and were recommended by Daniel. I have always wanted to experience adventure diving. Might consider for next year’s trip? Any takers?

Ummi who works for Reef Check Malaysia, awesome EcoDiver Trainer! RESPECT

Later in the evening I had a bbq to attend. It was the 'Post-mortem Tenggol-Smenggol BBQ' + potluck. I made Chocolate Pear Pavlova. Happy to say they cleaned it out pretty fast! Good food (hat's off to the master griller :P) and good company. Thank you Ilhan and Zeze for organising the BBQ and allowing us to trash your crib! x
